Sawtell continued their unbeaten run this season with a 40-point victory over North Coffs at the Coffs Coast Leisure Park.
The Kangaroos, looking to overturn an unfavourable recent head-to-head record started well and held sway against their highly-fancied opponents.
In an even first-half, North Coffs squandered some priceless opportunities leading into the main break, despite the work ethic of Josh Drum and Brad Giri in the middle.
The reigning premiers were to make North Coffs pay again in the second half much like their previous encounter. Again, Ben Hooke had a heavy influence on the scoreboard, kicking six goals.
It was a case of young talent time in the middle third of the ground. Simon Taylor and Jack Gillingham had strong games, working over their direct opponents as the match progressed.
Sawtell dominated across half-back despite some impact from Brendan Norton and the Kangaroos’ main target, Ryan Turner. Daniel Pritchard is the main injury concern for the Saints and is likely to miss about a month after sustaining an arm injury.
The win all but assures the Saints of the minor premiership while North Coffs drops out of the top two ahead of their all-important clash against Port Macquarie next week.

The Magpies maintained their form before the mid-season break with a massive win over a disappointing Nambucca Valley at Macksville Park.
It was obvious Scott Payne and his coaching staff did their homework as the Magpies built on their lead at every change. Nambucca star, Aaron Clarke was high on their hit list and he was well held despite showing some glimpses of brilliance.
Captain, Shannon Skreja was inspirational for the victors and was a driving force both in the middle and in and around pack situations.
Any hopes of a Lions’ comeback were snuffed early in the third term, with the pace of the Port outfit proving too much over four quarters.
While Nambucca had passengers despite the best efforts of Luke Benson and Monty Schmidt, it was another team performance that helped the southern side to their third consecutive win and second place on the ladder.

The Swans arguably turned in their best performance of the season against a depleted Grafton at Fitzroy Oval.
The red and whites turned it on in front of their home crowd as they quickly gained ascendancy of the contest. While the Swans were good, the Tigers were terrible and gave their opponents too much latitude over the ground.
Kris Rundell was impressive in the centre clearances, enhancing his Best and Fairest chances with another dominant display. Dane Kennedy played his best game for the season, and like Rundell, won plenty of the hard ball in the middle.
Evan Duryea returned to the fold and had an immediate impact in front of goal. Starting in the centre, his long kicking and contested marking helped him to a ten-goal haul.
There were few positives for the Grafton side. Kodie O’Malley and Graeme Connolly tried hard but the side lacked forward impact and accountability down back in the absence of Justin Darby.
The win sees the Swans leapfrog Nambucca Valley into fourth place, a position they will look to consolidate when the two sides face off on Saturday.
