IN another step towards the grand opening of AFL’s finest facility on the north coast, Port Macquarie Magpies president Paul Sheldon announced the Wayne Richards Park complex would include boundary line coach’s boxes thanks to the generous support of Coastline Credit Union.
The local credit union’s representative Leanne Dunlop recently presented Sheldon with a cheque for $9724.
“The Magpies’ application for support was successful due to the community benefits the club offered across all ages and the strong focus it has on health and family consistent with the values of Coastline,” she said.
The funding will provide two shelters from the elements as coaches’ boxes in protecting the game’s volunteers (club managers, coaches, assistants, physios, runners etc) and interchange players.
“This type of backing is testimony of the community-orientated focus Coastline Credit Union engages in doing business in our area and the responsibility they accept in giving back to the public, which they service,” Sheldon said.
“Our club is very fortunate to have enjoyed Coastline’s support over many years and we commend the Community Foundation as a wonderful initiative indicative of their strong ethics and values.”
The new Wayne Richards Park AFL facility is progressing on time and the club anticipates completion in readiness for its pre-season training in early 2011- with the new ground to feature five light towers.
All in all, it is shaping as an exciting year for the Magpies, which is a rejuvenated club having made the senior grand final in 2010 on the back of a new injection of under 18 talent.
While the coaching panel remains unchanged in Scott Payne (seniors), Paul Sheldon (seconds) and Craig Carroll (under 18s), a new panel of assistants over the three grades includes Anthony Beasley, Garry Hawtin, Shannon Skreja, Tony Kennedy and Tony Williams.
They will be supported by an executive committee that has runs on the board and people like Kim Kriis (2010 clubman), Elaine Gillman, Glen Williams, John Stangherlin, Butch Clark, Matt Lill, Judy and Mick Payne.
