The six week program introduced the skills to the AFL and included games at the end of each session where the athleticism of the participants was quite remarkable. As a result several players have been identified to trial with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.
Coffs Harbour Primary School was heavily represented at the program which resulted in their school winning the Paul Kelly Cup with many of the team made up from attendees at the multicultural program.
The final night was conducted this week with North Coffs Kangaroos coaches attending with an offer for the participants to continue playing club football.
AFL Manager, Northern NSW, Mark Heaney was pleased with the first program. "It was a great turnout for our first multicultural program, one of our priority markets in NSW. The laughter and fun being had between all the kids of different backgrounds during the games was fantastic to see."
The program was also well supported by St Vinnies who work to ensure new arrivals to Coffs Harbour have positive experiences and by Youth Directions who assisted transporting and promoting the program.
