AFL Report Round 6–25/5
Saints Look to Sure up Top Spot
The undefeated Sawtell/Toormina Saints host the North Coffs Kangaroos at Richardson Park this afternoon confident of keeping their unblemished record intact and holding on to top spot on the NCAFL ladder. The Saints have both Grafton and Port Macquarie breathing down their neck and a win today will put some space between those two. The Sains are in good shape and their rep players Mark Couzens, Mitchell Cole, Daniel Johnson and Rick Zappula all had good hit outs in last week’s historic victory at Port Macquarie. Couzens and Johnson (DJ) are in particularly special form and pose some big headaches for the Roos.
North Coffs coach, Mick Young, played alongside these two last week and must wish that was happening again this afternoon. The powerful overhead marking of Couzens and the raking left foot of DJ will be on show again and with the support of the likes of Jake Saunders, Angus Burkitt and Nat Johnson they look far too strong. Nick Stanton-Velt gave a good account of himself in rep company and will be a danger across the middle. The truth is that the Roos are struggling despite the competitive character of the club and will come up short today. A full schedule of games starts at 11.15am.
In other games the Coffs Swans will host the Grafton Tigers at Fitzroy Oval at 1pm in what should be a good quality contest while the Camden Haven v Port Macquarie game is likely to revert to Wayne Richards Park due to ground closures.

Woodlock Denies Switch to Collingwood
Jill Woodlock, staunch Sydney Swans supporter and wife of local AFL legend Jim Woodlock, has denied rumours that she has switched allegiances from the Sydney Swans to Collingwood. Jill attended a ‘M’ themed birthday party and donned a Magpie jumper as her costume for the evening, whichstarted the rumours. A picture tells a thousand words. Make up your own mind!
History Made at Wayne Richards Park
The late Paul Sheldon, League and Port Macquarie legend, had a dream to get representative football played at Port Macquarie on a new AFL ground. Last Saturday "Sheldo" got his dream when the North Coast overcame a talented TAFL outfit at Wayne Richards Park. In honour of all the work that Sheldon did for his club and the league, a medal was struck in his name for presentation to the North Coast rep player that displayed the charactisticsassociated with the man including, courage, commitment and character. Camden Haven’s Jackson Ireland was awarded the medal this year in a close vote from Port Macquarie’s Jessie Schmidt.
Clubs Support Expanded Draw
AFLNC clubs gave full support to the expansion of the senior draw to allow four additional games to be rostered in 2013. The loss of the Coffs Swans senior team had created a number of byes that have now been reduced by these additional games. The amended fixture is now up on the AFLNC website.
New Club Making an Impression
The Camden Haven Bombers are only in their second season but are already making an impression in the competition. Their U18 grade side is currently sitting in 4th spot while their reserves are comfortably in 3rd position. Both sides look likely to play off at BCU Stadium in the finals. To top it off their sole representative in the senior rep side, Jackson Ireland, was awarded the Paul Sheldon medal. Not a bad start.
