Clubs Meet to Plan Strategy
AFLNC executive and club delegates will meet in Coffs Harbour next week to ratify changes to the competition for the remainder of 2013 and plan strategies to expand the code in 2014 and beyond. The withdrawal of the Coffs Swans senior team, coupled with the dramatic resignation of the Northern Area Manager last month, has created some challenges for the administration and clubs alike. On the bright side it does give all stakeholders an opportunity to take a hard look at the structure and review the entire format with a view to refreshing the game in our area.
Saints Swap Boots for Putters
The only bruises that the Sawtell Saints will collect this weekend will be to their egos, and perhaps a hangover or two! The club is holding its annual golf day at Sawtell Golf Club on Sunday starting at 10am. This is generally a well attended event on the club calendar and they expect a big rollup. The event is a four man Ambrose and you can contact Alex Person (0438 403008) for further details.
AFL Plans Gala Day in July
The 27th July is a big round of football in Coffs Harbour with all six clubs and a total of 15 sides playing in the city for the first time. To celebrate that historic event and as part of the build up for the finals series all clubs and officials will be attending an after match dinner at their loyal sponsor’s, the Coffs Hotel, after the games. This should be a great opportunity for the clubs to socialise and be briefed on any changes for the coming season as well as receive information on the upcoming finals. Mark it in your calendars.
Lack of Interest Kills Oldies
I don’t know what is wrong with the aging AFL community of Coffs Harbour. The Hunter Valley super rules side threw out the challenge for a fun game this weekend which has been declared dead in the water and is now not going ahead due to a distinct lack of interest from our over 45 contingent. What has become of us? When did sitting on the couch watching Geelong hammer the poor old GWS become more fun than running around kicking the Sherrin! Wait a minute … cold beer…warm couch… I get it.
