AFL Report Round 12– 13/7
Fortress Port a Big Ask
Sawtell/Toormina travel to Port Macquarie today in the knowledge that victory almost certainly assures them the minor premiership. The Saints have only dropped one game all year and that was the corresponding clash in round seven when the Pies thumped them by 67 points. Sawtell do not have a good record on the road but with the double chance almost assured with a win, and their next senior game not until August, they really need to step up for this one.
Port has not had a lot of hard games lately and should be fresh with a full list. Matt Gallagher is in scintillating form. With both sides fielding three grades this is as close to a simulated final as either club will get before the real action starts next month. Last weekend the Saints unearthed a couple of late season recruits in Ben Young, Brendan Foote and Mitch Gowlan. Young in particular was most impressive in the centre gathering numerous quality possessions in a best on ground performance. He is a quality pick up and strengthens their premiership credentials. The Pies have not dropped a game at Wayne Richards Park since their relocation from Stuart Park and while the Saints are as good a chance as anybody to break the hoodoo the money is with the Pies.
Elsewhere the Coffs Swans host North Coffs at Fitzroy Oval from 11.15am in what should be two quality games while Grafton travel south to play Camden Haven in a game that they simply must win to stay alive.

Magpies Duo Celebrate Milestone
Port Macquarie big men Damon Munt and Clayton Miechel achieved personal milestones last weekend when they played their respective 100th games for the Magpies. AFLNC representatives, premiership players and loyal club men, both are hoping to add another flag to their already impressive footy resumes in 2013. Well done lads.
No Need to Rush
Port stalwart Mick Tritton is obviously not one to rush in boldly. Mick announced his engagement to long time partner Kim last week after a relationship spanning almost 10 years. No date for the wedding has been set but his friends are guessing some time in 2025! Perhaps he is waiting for Carlton’s next premiership! Come on Tritto.
Life Member Calls it a Day
Another Carlton tragic and long time AFLNC Tribunal Chairman and life member, Dave Gilmour, has decided the call it a day and has stepped down as a long serving member of the tribunal. Gilmour has been involved in local AFL for around 30 years having previously had a successful umpiring career in the VFL. I wonder if he has had a call from the club to prop up Mick Malthouse who looks destined to take the Blues to another disappointing year outside the top eight. Sorry Dave, could not resist that one!
Sydney Swans Premiership Hero to Attend Dinner
In great news for the local code Sydney Swans premiership hero Craig Bolton is a special guest at the league’s Super Saturday dinner at the Coffs Hotel on Saturday 27th July. In a rare event all clubs are playing in Coffs Harbour that weekend and players, supporters, umpires and volunteers are invited to a get together at the Coffs Hotel to celebrate the event after the games. More details are on the AFLNC website.
