This Saturday will mark two special occasions, one will determine premiership favouritism for either the Coffs Swans or Sawtell/Toormina.
The other is a great initiative by the Coffs Swans to turn their last home game into a huge Cancer Awareness Round.
Coffs Swans player Nic Von Schill has organised the Cancer Awareness rounds as a way of honouring those who have fought the disease and to raise money for the Cancer Council.
Special guernseys have been made for the match thanks to contributions by Coastal Law Conveyancing, North Coast Cranes, Coffs Harbour Golf Club and Clayton and Forster Accountants.
“Having received a drubbing last weekend the Coffs Swans are fired up to bounce back,” Von Schill said.
“This is a particularly important match for the Swans players, who will be sporting new Guernseys in red, white and yellow.
“These are the team colours plus the colour of hope, with Cancer Council’s logo emblazoned on the front. The players are raising funds for Cancer Council as well as raising awareness about men’s cancers.”
The players selected in the Swans senior team for the weekend have the chance to buy those jumpers.
Any left over jumpers will go under the hammer at the Coffs Harbour Golf Club in a charity auction on Saturday night after the game against Sawtell.
Local AFL legend and Ex- Coffs Swans premiership player, Scott Morgan will also be on hand to present the Morgan Medal to the best player on the ground for the day.
The award highlights the battle Swans player Scott Morgan has faced over four years with Hodgkins Lymphoma as well as the contribution Scott’s father, Peter, made at the club as a premiership coach and member.
There will be donation boxes and raffles at Fitzroy Oval on Saturday to assist with the fundrasing for the Cancer Council.
The Swans' goal is to raise $2000 for the Cancer Council.
Cancer Council NSW’s Fiona Foulkes said Von Schill’s idea for the fundraiser would help the organisation’s goal of making cancer something that’s no longer feared in the community.
