SAWTELL-Toormina took clear top spot and outright premiership favouritism with a solid win over Coffs Swans.
They travel to Grafton today and this will be a litmus test for the rejuvenated Tigers.
After limping through the season, a win would really throw the race open and I’m not writing them off just yet.
Tigers rise from the mat
GRAFTON was on the mat just a week ago, unable to send a side to play Port, getting as few as eight at training.
Serious conversations involving players, the executive and coach Adi Campbell shook up the slumbering Tigers and the response was 22 players heading to Laurieton to comprehensively smash the Bombers and shore up their third spot.
Camden Haven was brave but lacked the class of Tigers’ big guns Dan Zacek, Lee Anderson and Mark Cowland.
Law interpretation
IT WAS so windy at Laurieton that one Havens player kicked the ball 30 metres from defence, only to watch it curl back almost over his head and be marked by an opponent.
The required distance for a kick is 15 metres but this one travelled more than 50 metres but landed close from where it came.
Any thoughts?
Good sport
“CAN be a pain in the proverbial but does a mountain of work,” was how Sawtell president Les Cohen described John Martindale.
John does the goals, packs up, attends league meetings, organises and even sponsors players.
He is a club phenomenon and thoroughly deserves the recognition of the Coffs Hotel good sports award.
