PORT Macquarie is back on top of the reserves tree.
For so many years the Magpies had dominated the second grade competition winning eight consecutive titles. But the last one of those was back in 2010 and it needed an "almost perfect" effort according to Magpies coach Anthony Beasley to have the trophy find its way back into Magpies hands.
"You can't get any better than that," Beasley said.
"The first final that we played against them (Sawtell/Toormina), leading up to it we didn't get much game time and they caught us unguarded and we just thought we had it won in the first quarter but that was a good loss for us.
"Last week we started get back to the game plan and then this week we executed really well."
A strong first half set up the victory with the Magpies defence at its miserly best.
The Saints could only manage to kick one goal for the match in the greasy conditions.
The Magpies intensity refused to allow the opposition any chance of a comeback with Greg Dean and Michael Gentle prominent.
It was an effort worthy of what the coach had ordered.
"We wanted to do four quarters from start to finish and I think every single player did it," Beasley said.
"Especially the backline, they were absolutely brilliant they were in front and running and the juniors helping out.
"I just couldn't be any prouder."
