Although both Heat sides (U15 and U16) lost all games, it was a credit to the performance of the local players who rarely get the opportunity to play in wet weather conditions.
Sydney received rain for 12 straight days, breaking a 15 year record, making the St Ignatius surface more like mud but all players adapted beautifully with some quality matches being played.
The U15 Heat side saw a lot of changes this season with half the side having not played at this level before. They improved over the three days, a credit to the side and also the coaching staff, that involved Dean Burkitt (runner) and Mick Pearce (team manager).
The U16's were unlucky not to get a win, as they fell away in the last quarter in their opening two matches, before storming home in the final match to just fall short against more experienced opposition. The local talent shone in the side with Jack Gillingham, Sam Turner and Simon Taylor most impressive.
The sides must also be congratulated for their spirit and conduct at the carnival; which was reportedly the best in recent years.
Results from all the games can be seen by accessing the AFL NSW/ACT website link. News will also be there early next week regarding the naming of the State Squad. We have more exciting news coming soon regarding the carnival; stay tuned for details.
