Hamish Pearce will make his Swans Reserves debut on Saturday when the red and whites take on the Belconnen Magpies at ANZ Stadium at 3.50pm. The Swans Reserves are part of the Canberra AFL and currently sit second on the ladder.
It will be a massive game for Pearce as not only is Belconnen sitting on top of the table, two games clear of the Swans with only two losses this season, but it will also be the curtain raiser to what is being billed by many as the match of the year to date, between the Swans and Collingwood. There will be a massive crowd flocking in with a figure over 60,000 being predicted for the clash.
The majority of the Pearce family will be travelling down to watch Hamish play as they were already booked on a bus trip with the Swans Juniors club, an annual fixture on the junior club's calendar.
It will be fitting as Hamish started his playing career with the Swans juniors, captaining the Under 16 side to premiership success last season. The Orara High School student has come on leaps and bounds since then, with his bullocking style, ball-winning abilities and leadership capabilities earning him selection in the Under 18 Northern Heat squad early this year.
With a playing style not dissimilar to that of his Dad, Michael, who was a respected player in the local competition, Hamish also earned selection in the North Coast Under 18 and Senior Representative Squads, where he performed admirably.
His selection also comes on the back of strong performances in recent weeks in the Swans senior side, where he has been in the Swans best couple of players on a consistent basis.
The Swans Reserves are coming off the back of a strong 11 goal win last week against Queanbeyan. The Swans' youngster should get the opportunity to play with Luke Brennan, who earlier in the year presented Hamish with the 150 Year Medal for his best on ground performance in the Swans v Port match. Brennan kicked nine goals last weekend and is knocking on the door of senior selection. Other notable names in the Swans Reserves side include Ben Matthews, Patrick Veszpremi, Heath Grundy and Tim Schmidt.
Congratulations go to Hamish on behalf of the AFL North Coast league.
