Talented juniors on show
The Under 15 CHS State Championships were hosted by the North Coast at BCU International Stadium in Coffs Harbour in early June. Once again Coffs Harbour showed itself as a venue capable of hosting this level of event. Everyone enjoyed the high standard of football on show.
Swans Cup U14 and U16 Gala Days are currently being held to find winners to participate in our super schools day of football at BCU International Stadium, Coffs Harbour on Wednesday July 8.
Schools getting behind AFL
Recently the increase in the number of AFL footballs being kicked in the schoolyard has become very noticeable with many primary schools undertaking NAB AFL Auskick and Primary School Intra programs during Term 2.
A highlight of these programs is all participants receiving their own football. Tyalla, Kororo and Toormina are amongst those who have run programs in Term 2.
Meanwhile, boys and girls in the Grafton area will have the opportunity to attend a Community Auskick Centre during Term 3. Look out in local schools for details.
Rep Weekend
Interleague football replaced club football for the long weekend on the coast. North Coast AFL Senior representative side had a hard fought win over South Coast AFL. Well done to coaches, Peter Chadwick, Tristan Snow and Paul Sheldon.
The curtain raiser saw the two local junior leagues battle it out. North Coast defeated Mid North Coast in the U14 game with the boys who played learning from great coaches in Dean Burkitt and Craig Carroll.
Talented Player Program News
The AFL (NSW/ACT) TPP Academy training sessions have commenced for 2009. The Academy is structured to increase opportunities for talented players across NSW and the ACT to access elite and individualised development opportunities. Each TPP zone features an Academy Coach who will implement the Academy curriculum and monitor player development.
The Under 18s NSW/ACT side has so far registered two wins over Queensland (25 points) and Northern Territory (8 points) on the weekend. In Round 2, however, they suffered an 111 point defeat against the mighty Vic Metro.
In other news, Albury has been confirmed as the venue for this years Under-13 and Under-14 State Zone Trials. Games will be played on Monday October 12, Tuesday October 13 and Wednesday October 14. Further details surrounding the Trials will be released shortly.
Coach of the Year Recognition Program
All clubs will soon receive program and nomination information regarding the recognition of coaches at grass roots level. Coaches have an extremely influential role in the promotion and continued development of our great game and the AFL look forward to recognising a number of these coaches for the efforts that they have made and continue to make.
