A VERY SAD DAY FOR LEBANESE BASKETBALL

The Lebanese Basketball is shocked with the absence of  Antoine Choueiri , Mr. Choueiri who is the “ Godfather “ of the Lebanese Basketball believed that the Lebanese Basketball can reach the World since 1994 .

He believed that Lebanese Clubs can be Arab Champions and they did ( Sagesse , Riyadi for Men’s . Antranik, Sagesse for Women’s), He believed that Lebanese Clubs can be Asian Champions and they did ( Sagesse) , He believed that the Lebanese National Teams can participate in the World Championship and they did (  Men’s National Team 2002-2006-2010 , U19 National Team in 2007).

Mr. Choueiry became the president of Sagesse club in 1994 , during his term as president till 2004 Sagesse club created History by achieving many championships :

  • Lebanese League Champions :  8 times ( 1995 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 ,2004 )
  • Arab Champions : 2 times ( 1998 , 1999)
  • Asian Champions : 3times ( 1999 , 2000,2004)
  • Many West Asian Championships and International Tournaments

Throughout the years Mr. Choueiry helped with no limit all the Lebanese Clubs and all the Basketball Federations to develop the game, his target was to see all Lebanese united around this game and this was accomplished, Basketall is the number one sport in Lebanon for the past 16 years due to Mr. Choueiri’s vision and non stop support throughout the years.

In August 2008, The Lebanese Basketball Federation received a big gift from Mr. Choueiri , a new Headquarter , The Lebanese Basketball Federation decided to call the new Headquarters “ Antoin Choueiri Headquarter for the Lebanese Basketball federation“.
