Our Under 14 & Under 15 Div 2 teams travelled to Trentham last night to take on the Maryborough Castlemaine Football Netball League.
It was a cold, wet & miserable night, as the spectators searched for the best vantage point to see the action whilst trying to remain warm. Most people chose to stay in their car, and you could hardly blame them.
On field, the RDFNL Under 14 Division 2 team coached by Andrew Wilmott took on the MCDFNL Under 14 team. The RDFNL got off to a good start, leading by 13 points at quarter time, and 20 points at the half. The MCDFNL staged a spirited fightback during the second half, and reduced the margin to less than a goal with about 5 minutes to play. The ball travelled from end to end, and when the siren rang, RDFNL had held on to win by 4 points. Best Player award went to Lachlan Giles from Kilmore Junior FC.
In the final game of the evening, with rain belting down for much of it, the RDFNL Under 15 Division 2 team coached by Jacob Bennett took on the MCDFNL Under 16 team. There was a clear size advantage to the boys from MCDFNL, and they dominated play early on, kicking 1-7 to no score in the opening term. The RDFNL battled really hard for the remainder of the game, and the final margin of 39 points really didn’t do justice to the effort. Coach Bennett praised the boys post-match for hanging in there against the older and stronger opponents and for not giving in. Best player award went to Jordan Quinsee from Sunbury Kangaroos Juniors.
Both the Div 2 teams will take on the EDFL in Round 1 of the Vic Metro Junior Championships next Wednesday evening.
