Diggers Rest maintained its place on top of the Riddell District Football League ladder with a vital win against Rupertswood at the weekend.
Despite playing away from home, the Burras settled the quicker of the two sides early and kicked the only three goals of the opening term to hold an 18-point lead at the first break.
While Rupertswood was able to hit the scoreboard at the resumption of play, it didn’t take long for the Burras to kick away again. Five goals to three in the third term increased the margin to 32 points and all but sealed the win for the visitors.
Diggers Rest had nine individual goalkickers in the 13.9 (87)-7.10 (52) victory, Luke Smailes leading the way with three.
