AFL Tasmania's State League General Manager, Shaun Young, today announced the 2013 RACT Insurance State League Team of the Year.
The clubs that finished in the final five after the home and away season have vindicated their position on the ladder by having a combined number of 17 players represented in the RACT Insurance State League Team of the Year.
Of the final five clubs Burnie has the most representation with 5 players, South Launceston and Clarence 4, Launceston 3 and Lauderdale 1.
North Hobart has 2 representatives and Glenorchy, Hobart and North Launceston have 1 representative each.
A further reinforcement of the South Launceston Football Club's outstanding home and away season was their Head Coach Mitchell Thorp being selected as the Coach of the Year, Burnie’s Brent Plant was named his assistant.
While naming the 22 players and coaching staff to receive “Dream Team” status, State League General Manager, Shaun Young said, "it was no surprise that the League’s final five clubs in the home and away season of 2013 have filled so many positions in the line-up."
“The Team of the Year is the best of the best so it’s no surprise that a majority of the players have impressed the selection committee.”
The Team of the Year concept, in its fourth year, is based on selecting the best player for each position, as opposed to selecting the best 22 players in the League.
State Captain, Clarence follower Brady Jones, has the distinction of being named captain.
Umpires also received recognition with Joel Harris being named as the Umpire of the Year.
Young said that AFL Tasmania had no hesitation in continuing the Team of the Year concept following widespread acceptance and the healthy public debate over selections.
“The amount of comments we have received about last year’s Team of the Year is a definite indication that the Tasmanian football community wants a Team of the Year to be selected,” he said.
“It is a huge honour for each of the players and coaching staff to be named in this team and every selection has been carefully considered in terms of what they have achieved over the entire home and away season.”
Presentation of Team of the Year certificates to representatives of the team will take place at the 2013 RACT Insurance State League Grand Final Function.
