Souths marched to another win on Saturday with young gun Jermaine Wardle stepping up again for the Cutters against the Lions.
But the elusive Wardle did not have it all his own way.
He became a step ladder for Adam Gross in what is being touted by the former Gold Coast Suns NEAFL player's teammates as a certainity for the goal of the year.
Souths were incredibly wasteful in the opening term, kicking 2.12 to the Lions' 0.2.
But they outscored them 10 goals to four in the next two quarters to kick out to a big lead and eventually finish victors by 17.23(125) to 10.10 (70).
