99.5 Sea FM has officially launched its annual charity initiative, Give Me 5 for Kids, which has raised thousands of dollars for the children’s ward at Cairns Hospital.
Community members are being urged to listen to 99.5 Sea FM for details on how they can become involved in this important cause, by supporting 99.5 Sea FM and their local fundraising events.
The month long campaign kicked off this morning with Sea FM’s Chain Gang Challenge at Munro Martin Park. The likes of Mayor Bob Manning, Kevin Brown CEO of Cairns Airport, Gary Young President of AFL Cairns, Deb Hancock CEO of Chamber of Commerce, Mark Dodge Owner of Mark Dodge Auto Repairs and Gavin King Member For Cairns were handcuffed to wheelchairs from 7am all with a bounty on their heads…. Each had to raise $1000 bail in order to be released from the Chain Gang Challenge.
The local identities were great sports, making calls to friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances, and went over and beyond in raising the much needed funds. In fact, the $1000 bail was reached quite quickly and with all involved taking a comfortable position on their wheelchairs the morning continued with more donations pouring through from the community.
99.5 Sea FM Promotions Manager Renee Accatino said: “We were extremely grateful to have so many high profile business leaders on board to help us launch Give Me 5 for Kids this year and we are over the moon at how the morning unraveled. It’s more than double our expectations and has certainly put us in a great position to achieve our goal of $25,000 as we are half way there already. We’ve got some other really great events coming up this month and we hope the community will get behind them and help out the local children’s ward at the Cairns Hospital.”
The morning’s antics started to wind down from 8:30am as the local Firies from the Cairns Road Crash Rescue Team released each person from their chains. Over $13,000 in pledges has been received, and more donations continue to come through for the Sea FM Chain Gang Challenge. Among those who donated was Justin Fung who sent through a $1000 donation on behalf of Aquis as the family is currently in Hong Kong and unable to take part in the challenge but wanted to donate to the cause.
