The Mackay City Hawks final margin may read an easy 103 point win over the Mackay Magpies at Harrup Park Country Club on Saturday night but the second placed Hawks didn't have it all their own way.
It was a dominating opening term by the Hawks who booted 5 majors but if it wasn't for the Magpies relentless pressure inside Mackay City's forward fifty the wayward 8 behinds by the home side could of been more damaging and set up an larger margin than the 38-points.
The second quarter was much closer with the Magpies getting on the board with their first major of the game and the Hawks only able to manage two of their own.
Half-time margin was extended to 43-points.
The third quarter was a clinical display by the Hawks, 8 goals in a dominating display from Nabako Stow and Desmond Hayes. Mackay Magpies were only able to slow one major through injured star Nicholas Thiele, which would be a goal of the year contender.
It was another tight tussle in the final quarter with both sides struggling with the windy conditions. The Magpies booted 5 behinds in the final quarter and the Hawks also were target for a record quarter of behinds kicking an incredible 2.9, with both sides having their fair share of posters.
Brodie Saltmarch kicked 6-goals for the Hawks, taking his season tally to 49 after 8 matches. Tim Bone chipped in with 3 with Jason Garrett and Mitchell Bessell also contributed with two each.
Nabako Stow and Aaron Wade were the key contributors and named as the two best by the Hawks coaching staff.
For the Magpies Jackson Webb was a rock at full-back rebounding numerous Hawks attacking raids, along with midfield duo Tyson Craig and Jeff Neumann were dominate for the men in black and white.
