Warriors Men Victorious Over Panthers

South Adelaide Panthers (74) lost to Woodville Warriors (96)

Although South Adelaide initially matched it against Woodville, the class and talent of the Warriors prevailed on Saturday night delivering Al Green’s men a twenty-two point win.

The first quarter was a blistering-paced ball game, as both clubs matched one another for baskets.

South Adelaide’s Bradley Reid made an immediate impact, being a favoured target for the Panther’s offence early in the piece. It seemed a shame that coach Matthew Davies didn’t capitalise on the centre’s presence giving him minimal court time after the first quarter.

At the end of the first quarter with scores at 19 to 23, Woodville were slightly ahead. It emerged that the Panthers might have been able to compete with the pre-season winners.

However this was not to be.

It was clear that Woodville were going to win the contest following the quarter time break, with the natural talent of Daniel Sims, Alex Starling and former Adelaide 36’er Darren Ng providing a showcase of highlights for the away team whilst increasing their lead.

The Panthers fought bravely though, with Shane Boal knocking down four three-pointers for the night much to the amusement of Panther supporters.

However it wasn’t enough, with Woodville comfortably running away victors, 96 to 74.

Whilst only the second round of the season and with a lot more basketball to be played, the Warriors have rightfully firmed as a serious contender for the 2014 season. The question now lies if other clubs will be able to adapt to combat Woodville’s offensive array.
