What is the most challenging thing about being a CABL Coach?

Getting a group of guys all on the same page, working as one single unit. It’s a work in progress. That and the admin!

What is the best thing about being a CABL coach?

Helping others to better themselves and watching the group grow.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Being told I couldn’t do something made me want to do it even more and work harder for it.

Name 3 things a young player can do to get better in their game?

Practice, Practice, Practice! Really the biggest thing you can do is let go of the mental barriers you put before yourself. If you don’t think you can, you never will.

What do you love about your club? Why is it special?

The Mavs are a close-knit club. We have a lot of good people helping out where they can. I think it is special to be a club from the hills and to be one of the newer clubs in recent history.

What do you like about the Halls Woollacott Awards?

It is a chance to recognise great performances throughout the season and to celebrate the good times (and bad) of the season past.

How do you handle Big Game pressure?

I try to think about people, places or events in my life that have given me strength or a calming influence. I think it is best to be calm and level headed as much as possible.

What is the one thing you look for in an athlete? The Must have Quality?

Commitment- to themself and the team.

Who inspires you as a coach/athlete? Who is your hero? And Why?

As a coach I am inspired by Phil Jackson. I love his views on life and alternative approaches to coaching.

I wouldn’t have a single hero- but many who have inspiring stories- Charles de Gaulle, Abraham Lincoln, Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson and the obligatory Michael Jordan.
