Eagles Triumph in The Port

West Adelaide Bearcats (63) lost to Forestville Eagles (64)

The Forestville Eagles have recorded an important one point win in a thriller over the ladder leaders West Adelaide Bearcats at Port Adelaide on Saturday night.
 
The Eagles were in control for most of the game and led at all of the major breaks. The Bearcats fought back from 4 points down at three quarter time to take the lead in the final minutes of the game. Bradley Haydon scored the winning three in with seconds to spare and Adam Gibson smartly retained the ball in the dying seconds to seal the win.
 
The game did come at a cost, with both sides experiencing injury. The Eagles lost Kean Flowers in the first quarter after he landed heavily on his back in the first quarter. In the final seconds of the game, Bearcat Tristan Braithwaite dislocated his left shoulder.
 
Despite the loss, the Bearcats led the rebounds 43 to 27. The Eagles struggled to collect offensive rebounds, allowing West Adelaide to record 27 defensive rebounds. The Bearcats also led the turnover count, 21 to 16.
 
Jake Rios was the highest scorer for the Eagles with 17 points. Rios also recorded seven rebounds in total game time. Haydon and Gibson were the next best with 14 and 15 points respectively. Both were influential in holding off the Bearcats in the final quarter. Brad Gerlach was an important part of the line up, creating play with 6 rebounds and 9 assists.
 
For the Bearcats, Braithwaite recorded a game high 19 points as well as 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Blake Truslove used his height to collect 11 rebounds to go with his 11 points.
