Round 19 Preview: Men

By James Woight

Eastern Mavericks (7-12) v Sturt Sabres (9-9)

The Mavericks can dent the Sabres’ homes of making the finals, if they can produce an upset at Adelaide Hills.

The Sabres are right in the mix for a finals spot, after their big win over South last Saturday.

The Mavericks also beat South last Sunday, but their loss to Norwood the previous night has made their task of reaching the postseason almost impossible.

The Sabres lead the season series 1-0.

North Adelaide Rockets (11-7) v Forestville Eagles (9-9)

The Forestville Eagles can greatly improve their chances of reaching the final five, if they can defeat the North Adelaide Rockets at Hillcrest.

The Eagles scored a vital win over Woodville last Sunday, putting them on the same number of wins as fifth ranked South, with a game in hand.

The Rockets knocked off Southern last Saturday, which enables them to maintain a two win lead over the teams ranked 5-7.

The Rockets lead the season series 1-0.

South Adelaide Panthers (9-10) v West Adelaide Bearcats (12-6)

The Panthers will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing weekend, when they host the Bearcats at Marion.

The Panthers could have built a sizeable gap between themselves and the teams ranked sixth and seventh (Forestville and Sturt), but losses to Sturt and Eastern mean they must now rely on other results going their way, if they are to play finals.

The Bearcats held Centrals to just 43 points in a 27 point win, which cemented outright third position.

The Bearcats lead the season series 1-0.

Southern Tigers (1-17) v Central District Lions (4-14)

The Tigers and Lions will battle it out at Morphett Vale this week, in a clash between the league’s bottom two sides.

The Tigers were downed by North last week by 28.

The Lions lost to West by a similar margin.

The Lions lead the season series 1-0.

Woodville Warriors (14-4) v Norwood Flames (15-3)

In the Match of the Regular Season, the Flames will be chasing a 10th consecutive victory, when they visit the Warriors at St Clair.

The Flames became the first side to reach 15 total wins last Saturday, where they defeated Eastern.

The Warriors had the chance to join them last Sunday, and after looking good for most of the game, they fell to Forestville by one point.

The Warriors are now second on the ladder, their lowest rank since the end of Round 10, when the Flames were top by virtue of an extra game played.

The winner of this game will be in pole position to grab the Minor Premiership, which would guarantee them a home Second Semi Final, and two shots (if necessary) at a Grand Final.

The Warriors lead the season series 1-0.
