Rockets win close one over Lions

It came down to the final seconds of the game and it was the North Adelaide Rockets winning a close contest over the Central Districts Lions, 78-76 at Adelaide Arena.

The Lions had come from 13 down at the start of the fourth quarter due to the play of Lion Ashley Grimes. The Lions playmaker was feeling it from deep, rattling off two triples to begging the final quarter. Grimes went on to hit one more from beyond the arc and then started getting to the rim and closed the gap.

The Rockets struggled to answer during the run and the score was tied at 76 by an Aimee Herriman three with 25 seconds left to play.

North held the ball and got Shannon McKay open on the baseline for a long two to put them ahead. Centrals had plenty of time to get a good shot but Grimes' drive was shut down and Demi Skinner's shot to tie the game was off the mark. The Rockets grabbed the rebound and secured the victory.

The Rockets had the edge over their opponents for most of the previous three quarters. Jamie-Lee Peris showed off her versatility with hooks and spins down low to compliment her mid range shooting.

Jo Hill, in her 250th Premier League game, was solid on defence as well as being automatic with her jump shot.

North took advantage of a series of turnovers from Centrals to grab an early lead but the Lions never gave up and didn't let the lead get too far away from them. Grimes, Skinner and Amy Lewis made sure of that.

But as the clocked ticked down, the Lions couldn't cap off their 26-15 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Grimes top-scored with 27 points including 4-7 from three and had five rebounds and four assists, Lewis finished with 23 and seven rebounds while Skinner added 13 for the Lions.

Peris led the Rockets with 23 points and 13 rebounds. McKay scored 18 including the crucial basket to put North ahead at the end. Hill finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals in her 250th.
