Round 10 Preview - MEN

By James Woite

Woodville Warriors (6-3, 3rd) v Norwood Flames (8-1, 2nd)

In the Match of the Round, two of the competition’s sides in the Warriors and Flames will go head-to-head at St Clair.

The Warriors have won six of their last seven since a 0-2 start. Their only loss during that stretch was by a lousy point to unbeaten Southern. Nelson Kirksey (22.8 ppg) leads the team in scoring and is fourth league-wide.

The Flames have won their last seven and eight of nine overall. Matthew Lycett (17.3 ppg) is their top scorer. The Flames can give themselves some separation from the eight below them on the ladder, ahead of next week’s blockbuster against Southern.

Last time they met the Flames defeated the Warriors 81-56.

West Adelaide Bearcats (3-6, 7th) v North Adelaide Rockets (4-5, 6th)

This week’s clash at Port Adelaide is a chance for both the Bearcats and the Rockets to end their poor runs of form.

The Bearcats have lost four in a row. They are currently two games out of the fifth seed and will need to make up ground quickly to prevent their first bottom five finish since 2006. Demetrius Perkins (20.4 ppg) is the highest ranked Bearcat in scoring.

The Rockets have lost five of six since a 3-0 start. Luke Mapunda (17 ppg) leads the Rockets in scoring but has not played since 2 April. The Rockets are 3-0 with Mapunda in the side and he should slot back into the line-up very soon.

Last time they met the Rockets defeated the Bearcats 81-70.

Sturt Sabres (5-4, 5th) v South Adelaide Panthers (2-7, 9th)

The Sabres will be looking for a win to maintain their place in the top five when they host the Panthers at Pasadena.

The Sabres have had an up-and-down season to date. They have yet to find their stunning late season form from 2015 which saw them make it to the Grand Final. However, they are still in a good position to make the finals again. Isaac White (13.5 ppg) leads the Sabres in scoring.

The Panthers have won their last two after going winless in their first seven games. Adrien Coleman (18.7 ppg) is averaging more points than any other Panther but he has only made three appearances.

Last time they met the Sabres defeated the Panthers 82-69.

Forestville Eagles (5-4, 4th) v Eastern Mavericks (1-8, 10th)

The Eagles can secure fourth spot if they can overcome the Mavericks at Wayville.

Following a rare non-finals campaign in 2015, the Eagles have got off to a better start this year. Adam Doyle (23.4 ppg) is number one on the Eagles for scoring and number three in the League.

The Mavericks appear set for another season without finals having only won one game to date. The Mavericks’ top scoring threat is Thomas Cioffi (13.1 ppg).

Last time they met the Eagles defeated the Mavericks 88-69.
