Panther Women 3 for 3

West Adelaide Bearcats (55) lost to South Adelaide Panthers (66)

The Panther's forceful first half held them in good stead on the weekend, allowing them to notch up the third win of their so far un-spoilt season despite the Bearcat's determined push back in the final quarter.

The battle between South Adelaide's star import Janae Howard and Bearcat's new recruit Stana Zecevic got underway early as they traded goals and rebounds at both ends in the first quarter. South Adelaide's skillful supporting cast of Jess Mahony, Danielle Greaves and Hajnal Nagy gave the Panthers the edge, working hard to contest every loose ball, snatch the rebound and generally get in the way, interrupting any momentum the Bearcat's tried to build. The Panthers had established a healthy 16 point leave at the first break.

They consolidated their lead in the second quarter keeping the ball at their end for the most part while the Bearcat's struggled with their accuracy when they did get a chance to shoot. South Adelaide went into the half time break far out in front with 43 to 24 for the home team.

The Bearcats found their mojo in the second half managing to limit the Panthers to only 10 points in the third quarter whilst also scoring 10 themselves so effectively nothing changed as they went into the final period.

West's Trudie Holland and Kate Shierlaw stepped up the intensity in the second half of them game and Megan McLeod also lifted. The Bearcats managed to win the quarter but it was too little too late and South banked the win smoothly.

South Adelaide are now 3rd on the ladder along with 2013 grand finalists Norwood and North Adelaide with only the points differential separating the trio. While the Bearcats have slipped a rung from 5th to 6th.
