Lions No Match For Sabres Women

Sturt Sabres (87) defeated Central Districts Lions (43)

Sturt have recorded their biggest win of the season, taking down Central District 87 – 43 at Pasadena on Saturday night.

The Sabres came into round eight looking to bounce back after two straight losses, while the Lions were desperately searching for their first victory after a horror start to the year.

Unfortunately for the Lions, they did not find what they were searching for, as Sturt assumed control of the match within minutes.

The Sabres built an impressive lead on the back of some aggressive defence, forcing Central District to make some early changes. However, things went from bad to worse for the winless Lions, with just one field goal to their names at the first break.

Sturt’s Hannah Richards continued her impressive start to the season, getting it done at both ends of the court, leading all scorers with 20 points and 11 boards to give Sturt a commanding 34 point lead at half time.

While Richards proved too strong in the paint, it was a solid team performance that saw Sturt produce their best basketball of the year. In previous weeks, the Sabres looked to star import Natalie Novosel when things started getting tough, however this was far from the case this week.

The Sabres season high of 25 assists (to the Lions 6) saw them share the ball around the court allowing all nine of their point scorers to shoot the ball with relative ease and maintain a solid lead for the entirety of the game.

Central’s Demi Skinner did her best to keep the Lions in the contest with a team high 14 points but her attempt was in vain as the Sabres ran away claiming a 44-point victory.
