Lions Topple Sliding Sabres

Sturt Sabres (65) lost to Central Districts Lions (70)

Central District have claimed a thrilling five point victory over a struggling Sabres side, 70-65.

After an impressive start to the season, the Sabres have fallen back into a dangerous position, with only percentage separating them and various other teams.

In what was a low scoring affair, neither team really got going offensively, allowing for countless lead changes throughout the game.

While Sturt continued to out-rebound the Lions, they failed to convert on their offensive presence and seemed a little lost when Dexter Moore was unable to replicate last weeks 48-point show reel.

After a year with the Adelaide Crows Tim Klaosen proved once again why he was such a valuable signing for the Sabres this season, adding 16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals for the home side. While Central District’s Kyle Miller led all scorers with 20 points.

Tied at 50 a piece going into the final period, Centrals Matthew Atkins hit a rare three for the away side as they looked to maintain a five point buffer over the home side.

Despite their best efforts, neither Sturt nor Centrals were able to convert from beyond the arc, as they continued to exchange buckets sparingly deep into the final period.

Sturt’s Jordan Heading looked to add to his 16 points deep into the fourth but it was not to be, as Centrals ran out five point victors.

The win moves the Lions into fourth position, while the Sabres will look to next week for a much needed win over Southern.
