Bearcats Still Second

West Adelaide Bearcats (73) defeated North Adelaide Rockets (51)

The Bearcats Men have hung on to the number two spot for the third week in a row after their home court win against the North Adelaide Rockets at the weekend.

Both sides jostled for position in the opening minutes trying to find their rhythm and looking for their mojo. While neither team seemed to find smooth passage, a couple of slick steals and steady foul shots for the Bearcats saw them pull away from level scores in the last 2 minutes of the quarter with an unanswered 7 point streak giving them a respectable advantage at the first break.

The second quarter was evenly matched with skillfull plays and heat coming from both sides. The Rockets managed to peg the home team's lead back to 4 points at the major break. The Bearcats surged coming in to the second break trying to force the Rockets into submission blowing their lead out 15 points at one stage. However North Adelaide held on tight and fought back hard bringing the margin back to an achievable 10 points going in to the final stanza.

The Rockets struggled to get and keep possession in the last period and when they had a shot they wouldn't go in, North missed 15 from 18 shots for the quarter. Conversely, the Bearcats intensity paid off in the end affording them a quick 18 points and a healthy 22 point win.

North's ball handling could have been better, they gave up 22 turnovers which West converted in to 20 points for the night and the Bearcats managed to shut down North's power house Pero Vasiljevic limiting him to 2 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist for 31 minutes of court time. Daniel Goodluck played well for the Rockets with 12 points while John Wernham added 11 of his own.
