Sturt Sabres (71) defeated South Adelaide Panthers (69)
The Sabres women got over the line by just two points in a tough tussle against the South Adelaide Panthers moving them in to 4th position on the ladder.
The home team played the stronger first half and went in to the major break with a 9 point lead despite facing a challenging defensive effort from the Panthers. The visitors came out swinging in the third quarter though and Janae Howard and Ashleigh Spencer led an impressive offensive attack closing the gap to just 4 points heading in to the final period.
The last quarter became a battle between Janae Howard for South and Natalie Novosel for Sturt with both stars pulling out all the stops. They traded showstopping baskets thrilling the vocal crowd keeping them on the edge of their seats. The scores were levelled 3 times in the last ten minutes with 4 lead changes. With 2 minutes left on the clock South were 2 points down, Hannah Richards saved the day for the Sabres blocking all three shots from the Panthers.
Hannah Richards scored a double double for the Sabres with 13 points and 13 rebounds, she also made 7 blocks and 2 assists. Ashleigh Spencer led the game with 18 points for South while Sabre Lucy Spalding led her team with 15 points.
