Central Districts Lions (49) lost to Sturt Sabres (98)
The Sturt Sabres women have won their 10th straight game, beating the Central Districts Lions by 49 points, 98-49, at Starplex on Saturday night.
The second placed Sabres have hit an incredible patch of form with only one round remaining in the regular season.
The Lions were no match for Sturt as the Sabres led by 10 points after one quarter and then put the clamps on defensively, shutting down the Lions offence for the first five minutes of the second quarter.
Demi Skinner finally got Centrals going with a triple but the Sabres had reeled off 12 unanswered points and led by 19 at that stage.
The second half was much of the same for the visiting team. Hannah Richards was too good around the low post, scoring 18 on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting.
Natalie Novosel led all scorers with 22 while pulling down 12 rebounds. Novosel continually attacked the basket, slicing through the Lion's defence to add more points or set up opportunities for her teammates.
Skinner was the lone double digit scorer for the home side Lions, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the loss.
Sturt had an advantage in points in the paint (40-12), points from turnovers (28-15) and second chance points (13-0) while shooting 51% from the field.
