Round 11 Preview: Women

By James Woite

North Adelaide Rockets (8-3) v Eastern Mavericks (4-6)

The Mavericks will be searching for an upset win over the Rockets, to keep pace with the top five.

The Mavericks are two wins behind the playoff seeds, after losing 63-87 to Woodville last round.

Elsewhere, the Rockets won their first battle with Sturt since the 2014 Grand Final, with the final scoreline at 84-61.

The Rockets finished strongly for a 78-62 win over the Mavericks in Round 1.

South Adelaide Panthers (6-6) v Woodville Warriors (7-4)

In the Match of the Round, the Panthers will be looking for another major point swing, when they clash with the Warriors.

The Warriors defeated the Panthers 99-61 in Round 1, meaning the Panthers need a minimum 39 point improvement on their effort from opening night.

Although this seems an ominous task in theory, the Panthers did produce something similar in their recent win over North.

The Warriors won by 24 points against Eastern in Round 10.

Elsewhere, the Panthers were beaten, for the first time in seven games, by Southern.

Southern Tigers (4-6) v Forestville Eagles (3-8)

After winning at Wayville in Round 1, the Tigers will attempt to make it 2-0 against the Eagles this season.

In Round 10, by a scoreline of 70-60, the Tigers broke South’s six game winning streak.

The Eagles lost a thriller to West, going down 79-86.

The Tigers’ earlier win over the Eagles was by six points, where they rallied home after trailing at ¾ time.

West Adelaide Bearcats (4-7) v Norwood Flames (12-0)

The Flames will look to make it 13-0 when they visit the Bearcats.

The Flames looked in trouble against winless Centrals last week, trailing at half-time and leading by just two after three quarters. They came home strong in the fourth though – a 31-9 fourth quarter seeing them out 88-64 by the end of the match.

The Bearcats started the season poorly, but have continued to rack up the wins in recent weeks. Behind a big effort from their bench, they defeated Forestville last round.

The Flames were 77-54 winners against the Bearcats in Round 1.

Central District Lions (0-10) v Sturt Sabres (6-4)

The Sabres will be odds-on favourites to improve to 7-4 when they visit the Lions.

The Sabres fell to North last round, failing to exact any revenge for their defeat in last season’s Grand Final.

Meanwhile, the Lions produced arguably their best effort of this year. They ran Norwood close for three quarters, before falling away in the final period.

The Sabres thrashed the Lions 106-35 on the season’s opening night.

Round 12

Woodville Warriors (7-4) v Central District Lions (0-10)

The Warriors and Lions will do battle on Sunday, in the second game of the round for both sides.

The Warriors will enter as either 8-4 or 7-5, depending on their result against South.

The Lions will be 1-10 if they account for Sturt, or 0-11 if they suffer another loss.

The Warriors recently beat the Lions 77-43.
