Rnd 11: Eagles Women fly high against resilient Panthers

By Jake Stoubos

Forestville Eagles 72 | South Adelaide 55

The Forestville Eagles have won their fifth game in a row, defeating the South Adelaide Panthers 72-55 at Marion last Saturday night.

The game was tight from the beginning, until the Eagles had a strong flurry of offensive pressure seeing them jump in front of the Panthers quite significantly. Thanks to Forestville’s pressure and swift ball movement, this allowed them to take the lead at the end of the first quarter 21-10.

The second quarter came around and South was quick to score first, giving them the confidence boost they needed. The match became quite physical and the speed of play slowed down a little. Forestville then had yet another solid outburst, allowing them to maintain the lead heading into half time.

A three pointer by Samantha Defrancesco set the tone for the second half. This was countered with an identical shot made by Ieva Nagy for her Panther’s moments later. Both teams were prosperous with their shooting here, taking advantage of every opportunity they received and making for some entertaining gameplay.

The closing quarter was much the same as the third, however it was the early dominance displayed by the Eagles which proved to be the deciding factor in the end. South went down by 17 points in a mighty effort.

Olivia Thompson cleaned up on the scoresheets with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and she was a major factor in Forestville’s victory thanks to her precision shooting and clean usage of the ball.

Tayla Corrigen had a good night for the Panthers with 15 points and 6 rebounds.

With their fifth consecutive win, Forestville retains their second place spot on the ladder.
