The Swan District girls were selected through nomination by schools, coaches and the District Female football talent I.D. process to represent Swan Districts. The girls trained together for a couple of weeks before the big day, where they met their new team mates.
The first game was against South Fremantle, a mix up of fixture times left the girls with an early preparation, considering the circumstances the girls came out strong, coming away with a draw.
The second match was played against Peel Thunder, the girls gelled well together scoring 29 points against their zero.
South Fremantle gave the Swans a run for their money, going down by 6 points.
The final fixture match was against Great Southern, the swans put up a great fight but lost to the strong side.
The Grand final was fought out by the two country teams, Great Southern and the South West, a thrilling game ended as a draw. Our young Swannies made it through to the finals challenging Claremont/ East Perth for 2ndplace. A hard hitting game right from the start, both teams were tired and sore from the previous 4 games, but our swans pulled through and won by 29 points and were named the best Metro team.
Some outstanding plays of football and excellent skills by Rebecca Beeson, Ashley Sharp and Asha Price throughout the carnival, Lucy Critchell took a courageous hit to the face but bounced back in determination. Overall a magnificent effort by all the girls, who we hope to see next year continuing their football pathway through either the Youth Girls Competition or by joining one of the divisions here in the Swan Districts Women’s sides.
The squad was coached and trained by current Swan Districts Women’s Premier Division player’s, Allana Dickie and Skye Cameron. Both also currently coach a team in the Swan Districts Youth Girls Competition which runs on a Thursday night. A sincere thank you goes out to them for their time and effort into the team.
