VENOM BIG V GET SET FOR 2014

Both of our Women’s teams are focused on building on their recent and spectacular success, while our two men’s teams focus on consolidation and development while ensuring that they continue to remain competitive.

Nicole Howard, who coached the Youth League Women to a premiership win in the YL1W grand final last season, will this season take charge of the State Championship Women, a task she is more than ready to tackle.  Under the helm of Justin Nelson our senior women won the Division 1 premiership in 2013 and were successful in their bid to move up to State Championship.

Damian Clarke has joined Warrandyte Venom as the Youth League Division 1 Coach.  He will be ably supported by his assistant coaches, Kellie Taylor, Mollie Booth, and also new to the club, David Blythe.  The YL1W are confident they can reach the same heights as they did in 2013, a feat the close knit community of Warrandyte & surrounds would revel in.

All of our coaches are passionate about giving the younger Warrandyte players every opportunity to excel. “Warrandyte has a fantastic pathway in place for everyone now even its referees following the establishment at the beginning of 2013, of the Warrandyte Park Orchards Referees Branch” club president Richard Cookes said.

Arnold Giffening will also continue on as head coach of the Senior Men who will remain in Division 1. His assistant coach is Andrew “Ollie” Oliver. Giffening said recently that “It took the Senior Women 7 years to win a championship. They had a vision, a pathway for their younger players and an honest belief that they could achieve their dream. We have that same dream.”

Our Youth League Men have a new head coach in Beau Bentley.  Although relatively young, Bentley has a solid track record as a coach over a number of years also currently coaching the Warrandyte Redbacks domestic 16.1 boys and the 18.1 Rep Venom boys.

Club President Richard Cookes recently observed that “Warrandyte is clearly defined by its belief in local talent as evidenced by the re-appointment of Nicole Howard as the Women’s State Championship coach, Beau Bentley as the Youth Men’s Coach and Arnie Gifeining as the Senior Men’s Coach.” Cookes also noted that these appointments were on top of the selection of a large number of players (and staff) that have lived in and played for Warrandyte over many years. Talented players such as Josh Collins who was recently appointed Vice-Captain of the senior men’s team, is a typical example of someone that has played for Warrandyte over an extended period of time.”
