CONGRATULATIONS ELEANOR

In order to effect change, the VJBL has initiated the Girls Got Game program fully supported by Basketball Victoria.

During the month of May Venom 12-1 Girls player ELEANOR BOLLANDS was nominated for the weekly award.

As a weekly award nominee, Eleanor has been invited to the End of Year Luncheon to be held at Green Acres Golf Club in Kew on Monday 22nd September. To celebrate the 2014 girls there will be an end of year luncheon. The luncheon will be run in conjunction with the annual WIB luncheon. There will be a guest speaker (TBA) and awards to be handed out. One of the awards is the overall Girls Got Game winner for the season. THIS WILL NOT NECESSARILY BE ONE OF THE WEEKLY WINNERS. ANY NOMINEE COULD WIN.

We encourage all of Eleanor's team mates and families to buy a ticket to this event to help support her to win the overall award. The cost of the tickets is $30 for under 16s and $45 for over 16s. Eleanor will receive a complimentary ticket to the event.

The Objectives of the Girls Got Game program are:

To increase the profile of women and girls participation in Basketball in Victoria.

Reduce the attrition rate across the continuum of women and girls in Basketball in Victoria.

To provide Associations with opportunities to promote women and girls in Basketball in Victoria.

Year 1 will concentrate primarily on female players, extending to female coaches in year 2 and female technical officials in year 3.

Female players will be identified each week at VJBL games with strict criteria supporting how they showed they have game with the public able to vote on the Player of the Week. The winner will be presented with a Girls Got Game t-shirt at her game the following week. High profile female Ambassadors will be appointed throughout the year.
