ROUND 6 PREVIEW

Be Active Perth Wheelcats v Red Dust Heelers- Bendat Basketball Centre and Cockburn Basketball Association
7.00pm Friday 20th May (Bendat Basketball Centre)
5.00am Saturday 21st May (Cockburn Basketball Association) and
11.00am Sunday 22nd May (Cockburn Basketball Association).

In the first meeting between these teams this season, the Wheelcats will be looking to maintain their position on top of the ladder against the third placed Heelers.

Last round, Perth swept the Spinning Bullets with two hard fought six-point victories thanks in large part to the efforts of Shaun Norris who had a triple-double in each contest.

Kim Robins and Amber Merritt were also integral to the wins, reaching double-figures in scoring for both games while Michael Hartnett and Kayl Jeffrey are adding to the team’s depth.

Red Dust are coming off two losses to Wollongong but the form of Brad Ness means he will be a foil for Norris in their scoring battle this weekend.

Captain and coach Ness will need help on the rebounds from the likes of Rob Pike and Jake Kavanagh while Jannik Blair can also be a threat for the visitors.

The Heelers will not go down without a fight this weekend despite being underdogs but they will be desperate to improve on their poor 1-7 home record while the Wheelcats have a 3-1 road record to give them confidence of another sweep this round.

Kilsyth Cobras v Sydney Metro Blues- Kilsyth Sports Centre
5.00pm Saturday 21st May and
11.00am Sunday 22nd May

Having played one less game than the Wheelcats coming into Round 6, Kilsyth would be feeling ok about their second place on the ladder while the Blues will be fighting tooth and nail to record a maiden win for 2016.

The Cobras did not play in Round 5 but are riding a six-game winning streak after breezing past the Spinning Bullets earlier this month.

Sydney also enjoyed a break last weekend but will be wary of a meeting in the Cluster Round with Kilsyth when they fell by 34 points.

Darren Skuse and Georgia Munro-Cook both reached double-figures in that clash but they could not slow down Tristan Knowles or Daniel Del Toso while Shawn Russell was dominant on the boards.

Another issue was the 28 free-throw attempts which the Cobras had, easy points that the Blues cannot allow the home team to accumulate this weekend.

Wollongong Roller Hawks v RSL Queensland Spinning Bullets- Shellharbour City Stadium 5.00pm Saturday 21st May and
12.00pm Sunday 22nd May

On the back of six consecutive losses, the Spinning Bullets are quickly falling out of contention for a top four spot but this weekend provides them with an opportunity to peg back the difference with two clashes against fourth-placed Wollongong.

The Roller Hawks are in good form though, winning three straight to move to 6-2. Having played the equal-least amount of games in the competition, they will be even more pleased with their situation as a successful round could move them above the Heelers while they have already beaten Queensland in Round 1 by 19 when Brett Stibners and Nick Taylor both recorded double-doubles.

Tom O’Neill Thorne and Jake Fulwood starred for the Spinning Bullets and if they can curb their turnover issues, they will be in with a chance this weekend but the return of Michael Aurprince for the Roller Hawks adds another dimension that should prove too much for the visitors to cover.
