Roll The Dice: RSL Qld Spinning Bullets

After a cracking regular season, we’re finally at the pointy end as we prepare for the 2014 NWBL Finals Series.

In the lead up, we’ll delve into the strengths of our final four and discuss what needs to go right for them to finish on top when they each roll the dice during the 2014 NWBL Finals Series.

RSL QLD Spinning Bullets

Finished Regular Season: 2nd

League Offensive Ranking: 4th (1,027 points scored)

League Defensive Ranking: 2nd (856 points against)

The Spinning Bullets will take a great deal of confidence from the round 7 victory over the Be Active Perth Wheelcats, a result that saw the league’s number two defensive team in 2014, finished the regular season in second position.

The Spinning Bullets have beaten everyone in the top four at least once this season and will rate themselves a chance against anyone.

Bill Latham has been an extremely welcome return for the Bullets with his form on home soil nothing short of world class. He’s averaged almost 26 points per game this season which included a massive 45 in that Bullet’s win against the Wheelcats in round 7.

Teammate Agustin Alejos-Alonso has largely gone under the radar this season but joins Latham in the NWBL’s top five scorers in 2014. Even more impressive for Alejos-Alonso is that barring his season opener against the Rollerhawks, he’s converted at just over 60%.

The Spinning Bullets boast a stingy defence coupled with three players ranked in the league’s top ten scorers (Latham, Alejos-Alonso, O’Neill-Thorne) and a bench loaded with talent. Coach Jeremy Synot has already identified that the Bullets have no problems scoring points and that defence will be their focus come finals.

So how can the Spinning Bullets be beaten? Not an easy task but teams will look to reduce the impact of Latham and Alejos-Alonso down low and force the Bullets to try and win the game by shooting the ball from outside.
