SEASON REVIEW: WOLLONGONG ROLLER HAWKS

WOLLONGONG ROLLER HAWKS

Wins - 11
Losses – 4
Standing – 3rd
2015 result – 13 wins, 2 losses

THE GOOD

A nice spread of scorers saw Wollongong finish with four players averaging double-figures in scoring including Michael Auprince (16.2 points, 8.8 rebounds), Luke Pople (16 points) and Nick Taylor (14.7 points) to help the Roller Hawks to the most productive offence in the league. They would have liked their chances against the eventual Champions, Kilsyth, after taking the regular season series 2-1 against them but still finished with a bronze medal for the year. Brett Stibners and Pople both made the end of season All-Star team.

THE BAD

A very untimely injury to Auprince right on the eve of the finals weekend hurt Wollongong’s post-season hopes as without him, their front court suffered against the Wheelcats in the Preliminary Final. Sam White is a player of the future but was only available for eight games during the year while averaging less than a point.

STANDOUT PERFORMER

Australian Roller Stibners finished second in the competition for points per game with 27 while recording his most consistent season since 2013 with eight rebounds and seven assists per game. He hit 36% from three-point territory and 86% from the free-throw line while pulling the Roller Hawks over the line in the Semi-Final with 42 points, eight boards and eight assists without a turnover.

Next Year

Retaining a majority of their list will maintain Wollongong as one of the top teams next season as they have been for the past few years. A quality back-up for Auprince would help in case of another untimely injury while the likes of Brad Fisher and Tim Markcrow are developing into quality players.
