North Adelaide U12 Girls State team make State Champs Grand Final – win SILVER MEDAL

Ranked 4 going into State Champs the Under 12 girls had hopes they could live up to their ranking and had a goal of winning an invitation to play in the invitation only Victorian Classics in June.

Securing a crucial win against perennial rival Norwood in the pool stage of the competition ensured their position in the top 2 of their pool and that they would be in the top 4. There was a degree of jubilation in the camp but no guarantee they would receive a Classics Invitation as some years only top 3 in SA get invitations.

Sunday morning with 3 games already played saw the girls playing a cross over final against the top ranked Forestville. Before the game the girls were pumped in the change rooms,  they had a new found belief in themselves  and showed it as they came out on fire. They had their best start for the tournament; completely surprising and out playing their more fancied opponent jumping out to a 10 point lead. The game ebbed and flowed through the next 3 quarters but the Rocket girls kept their composure. Forestville made a late run in the final quarter but the girls stayed focused scoring at the right time to run out 5 point winners 30-25.

The U12 Rocket girls were into the Grand Final to be played at the Arena Sunday afternoon. The girls played their hearts out in the Grand Final but Sturt’s depth and athleticism proved too much and as a result the girls had to be content with the silver medal losing 21 -39.

This is the first time in 8 years an U12 girls team for North has reached the GF of State Champs. By coming second they are now guaranteed to receive an invitation to play at the Victorian Classics, again the first time in 8 years a Rocket U12 girls team has gone to Classics.
