VJL Grand Finals & VJC Prelim Finals Wrap

In the penultimate week of the VJBL season, it's crunch time as our Junior Championship teams were competing on Friday night in Grand Finals for the Junior League divisions, and Preliminary Finals for the Championship divisions.

It's been a long season and all our Boomers teams have given it there all ... teams still competing in their finals series have all had great seasons and done us proud.

Here's a wrap of Friday night's results from all games (with one to come on Sunday):

VJL Grand Finals

Under 12 boys VJL1 Bulleen-2 42 lost to Geelong 54

Under 14 girls VJL1 Bulleen-2 32 lost to Sandringham 35

Under 14 girls VJL3 Bulleen-3 35 def Keilor-2 32

Under 12 boys Regional Bulleen-5 47 lost to Melbourne 48

Bad luck to the U12.2 boys, who fought hard against an undefeated Geelong team. The boys were right in the game and got to within 5 points in the last quarter, but could not quite get any closer and the Supercats closed out the game. Boomers Media was at the game and has posted game photos to our Facebook page (link below):

Also back luck to the U14.2 girls who went down in a cliff hanger by 3 points to Sandringham. Tough loss this, as the girls had defeated Sandringham comfortably in an earlier round of the finals, but could not quite produce the same form in the big game.

And a big congratulations to the U14.3 girls who captured the VJL3 title in another tight contest against Keilor 2. Fabulous effort girls and a special mention to Liv Frost who was coaching at the VJBL level in her first season. Liv was also a part of our Big V Youth Championship team who were runners up this season.

VJC Preliminary Finals

Under 12 girls VJC Reserve Bulleen 48 def Sandringham 33

Under 14 girls VJC Champ Bulleen 55 def Knox 50

Under 16 girls VJC Champ Bulleen 59 def Dandenong 49

Under 18 girls VJC Champ Bulleen 58 def Werribee 48

Wow, a huge night for our Junior Championship girls with four from four preliminary finals wins in each age group for all our first teams to advance to Grand Finals next week.

Special mention to the U18.1 girls who have endured a tough season with injury but have bounced back with a cracking finals series so far, defeating arch rivals Melbourne and now Werribee on the way to the Grand Final - one more game to go for a fairy tale finish.

Looking forward to some cracking games next Friday night for the VJC Grand Finals - good luck to all teams and Go Boomers !
