Bronze for Boomers at U14 Nationals

Our Under 14-1 girls have taken out the Bronze Medal at the Under 14 Girls Club Championships, defeating the Newcastle Hunters 71 - 32.

Coming off their Victorian Junior Championship title a couple of weeks ago, the girls headed to nationals full of confidence for a good result.

The Boomers breezed through their early pool rounds, earning a direct berth into the Championship quarter finals.

The hard work started with a much tougher game in the quarters against the Forestville Eagles. The girls were certainly challenged in the game, but worked hard to earn a 52 - 38 win and setup a big semi final against the Norths Bears.

The Bears had certainly also shown in the early rounds that they were one of the teams to beat at the tournament. The semi final was a tough low scoring affair and scores were locked away at three quarter time. Half way through the last quarter the Bears just managed to secure a couple of crucial baskets to sneak out to a lead and the Boomers just could not find a way back, with the girls just going down 33 - 38.

This put the Boomers into the Bronze Medal game and the Hunters had no answer as the girls secured an comfortable win to claim third for the tournament.

For the record, the Bears went on to claim the Gold Medal, defeating the Knox Raiders 67 - 59. Clearly the top three teams were pretty even, with the draw just not working for our girls to be in the last game of the tournament.

Still, overall a fabulous result by our Under 14-1 girls across the season, Victorian Junior Champions and Bronze medallists at the Nationals. Congratulations to the girls and thanks to the coaches and team managers for all their help with the team.
