Big V Weekly Wrap Round 18

Big V 300

It's down to the wire for finals positions as the Youth competitions hold their final regular season round and the Champ competitions have one more round to go.

It's looking good for all our Big V teams making a finals appearance, but it's down to the wire with last round games as to final positions on respective ladders.

Here's the weekly wrap.

Youth Championship Women

Our Youth Women are the one team to have locked up their finals position with second position on the table and a home final.

The Boomers last game was just about a finals tuneup and they did not disappoint with a convincing 80 - 59 win over the Eltham Wildcats. The E-train Emma Pearce powered on with 23 points and 8 boards, while Olivia West and Bridgett O'Neill chipped in with 10 points each.

The girls now turn their attention to finals - we expect the Boomers home final will be on Sunday 26th July - stay tuned for comfirmation early in the week but keep Sunday afternoon free to get on down to EDSC and support our Youth women in their finals campaign.

Youth Championship Men

Our Youth men were also playing for finals position and are doing it tough with injuries to one or two key players.

It wasn't pretty, but the boys eked out a tough 58 - 55 win over the Keilor Thunder. Harry Fayle and Ernst Kruger were best with 11 points each.

We think, subject to confirmation, that the boys will finish third on their table, which will mean an away final first up. After a fabulous early start to the season, the Boomers finals hopes are really going to come down to who can take the court next week. Let's hope it's good news on the injury front for the boys this week.

State Championship Women

A big double header weekend for our Champ Women over the weekend.

The girls easily accounted for the Melbourne Tigers on Saturday night with an 81 - 49 win. Big game from Taylor Hall with 23 points, 6 boards and 7 steals, while Marie Drennan chipped in with 10 points.

Tough game on Sunday with the girls up against the highly fancied Ringwood Hawks. The Boomers fought it out, but just went down to the Hawks 55 - 64. Taylor Hall was again the shining light with 16 points and 8 boards, while young gun Amelia Smith was good with 10 points.

The girls were helped enourmously by Waverley going down to Warrandyte over this round, which gives them the edge over the Falcons for fourth position and a home elimination final. The Boomers are at home to the Venom next Saturday night and need the win to lock down the home final.

State Championship Men

Our Champ Men are hanging in there for a finals spot and needed a critical away win this week to hang on to sixth position on the ladder.

And it was a tight and tough game against the Melbourne Tigers, with scores locked away after regular time. But the Boomers just held their composure in overtime to grab a critical 74 - 69 win. Liam Norton was on song with 21 points, while KGG was huge with a big double double of 20 points and 12 boards. Scotty Cuffe also poured in 18 points and added 8 boards.

The Boomers have a tough final game against the Ringwood Hawks next week, but should have done enough to hang on to sixth on the ladder and a finals berth. Confirmation will depend on final games next weekend, but the Boomers should head for an away elimination final in the first week of Champ finals.

One final round next weekend for our State Champ teams, with a double header at EDSC on Saturday night - our Champ Women take on Warrandyte at 6 pm, followed by our Champ Men taking on Ringwood at 8 pm. Two big games for finals positions in the final round, get down to EDSC and support our Champ teams.

And stay tuned for details of our Youth Women's home final on Sunday 26th at EDSC.
