Big V 2015 Season Wrap

Big V 300

With our Champ Women bowing out in their Preliminary Final matchup with Hume City, that brings to a close the 2015 Big V season for the Bulleen Boomers.

Here's a wrap of the final game and the season overall for each team.

Senior Championship Women

Our Champ Women defeated Hume City in their previous regular season game so the Boomers knew they were capable of matching it with the Broncos. Unfortunately it was not to be this time around, as Hume City started well and the girls just could not get their shooting game rolling.

The Boomers fought it out all game, but in the end went down 55 - 66. Lauren Pearce had a great game with 19 points and 7 boards, while Taylor Hall chipped in with 10 points and 6 boards.

So the season closes out for the Boomers, but overall they have had a very good season, finishing third to the top two standout teams who looked a peg above the rest.

Across the season, import Taylor Hall lead the way with 13.4 points and 7.2 boards per game. Great support from Alison Drennan with 11.7 points / 7.2 boards per game and Lauren Pearce with 11.2 points / 6.1 boards per game.

Great to see young players such as Courtney Collins, Amelia Smith and Courtney Wragg stepping up and gaining Senior Champ experience - that bodes well for the future.

Senior Championship Men

Our Champ Men had a mixed season, grabbing some great wins, but not quite being able to match it with the top teams. The Boomers just scraped into a finals position, but were not able to get over the Waverley Falcons in their elimination final.

The "old guard" let the way in the season overall, with Scotty Cuffe averaging 16.6 points and 8.1 boards per game, while Liam Norton had 16.0 points and 5.1 boards per game. US import KGG chipped in with 12.2 points and 8.0 boards per game.

Youth Championship Women

A cracking season for our young Youth Championship women, going down to Knox in their Grand Final by a solitary point. The girls just missed out on the big prize, but there's plenty of young talent to suggest some big seasons ahead.

A standout year for Emma Pearce in her first year of Big V, averaging a huge 20.9 points and 8.5 boards a game - what a season. A host of support from Amelia Smith (9.4 points/6.0 boards), Kara Tessari (8.9 points/2.3 boards) , Bridgett O'Neill (8.0 points/9.0 boards) and Kiera Rowe (8.0 points/4.5 boards) per game.

Youth Championship Men

Our Youth Championship men had a cracking start to the season, playing some great games and heading their ladder early in the season. Unfortunately a number of injuries toward the end of the season crueled the Boomers title aspirations and the boys faced a tough elimination final against Knox that ended their 2015 campaign.

Jordan Little led the averages with another strong season, with 13.1 points and 9.3 boards per game, closely followed by Chris Nave with 12.9 points/7.8 boards and Harry Fayle with 12.9 points/4.2 points per game. Ernst Kruger also had some stand out games with 12.7 points and 8.3 boards per game.

So the 2015 Big V season draws to a close for the Bulleen Boomers - Big V has a short break and then it all starts again for season 2016.
