Brisbane Spartans sign former Wildcat

BRISBANE SPARTANS SIGN FORMER WILDCAT

FORMER Perth Wildcat Mathiang Muo has joined the Brisbane Spartans quest for a SEABL championship after signing for the 2016 SEABL season.

The 28-year-old guard/forward has joined CJ Bruton's team after a season with the Goldfield Giants in the Western Australian league, where he averaged more than 20 points per game.

Muo, who graduated from Charleston Southern University in 2013, played for the Wildcats during the 2014/15 and set for a big SEABL season with the goal of returning to the NBL next season.

The 196cm swingman said he was excited to join the Spartans to help the club break its playoff drought.

"I am working hard to help the team have a winning year and am excited to work under CJ Bruton, who is a mentor of mine," Muo said.

"My clear goal is a return to the NBL and I will be working hard every minute of every day to help this team win."

Muo joins a squad including, Bruton who is returning to the court this year as player/coach as well as point guard Isaih Tueta and brother, Josh, along with a number of US imports and other recruits to be announced in the next week.

Bruton said signing Muo was one of his priorities in the off-season.

"Mathiang is a special talent and we're incredibly happy to have him here at the Spartans for the 2016 SEABL season," he said.

"He is someone who is a quality person and fits in with the culture of the club but adds so much to us on the floor. He can play multiple positions, can score the ball, is a good defender and will be exciting for our fans to watch.

"Mathiang is definitely someone people should keep an eye on because he is someone who is talented enough to get back in the NBL but he will go a long way to helping us get into the playoffs."
