Cougars 11 6 72 def. Eagles 7 7 49
The Eagles were lost at sea in the first half and could barely get their hands on the ball. The Cougars led by 48-points at the main break. Something must have been said by the EAGLES Coach because thay came out fired up after half time and managed to outscore the Cougars by 6-goals to 2, to narrow the gap to a respectable 23-points. Players such as Carden, Robles and Crighton were dominant after half time and Morel stiffened up the back line. The Cougars welcomed back former captain Keiran Rae, who coupled with Neil de Joux and Brendan Swift, gave them plenty of drive and they found reliable targets in the forward line in Day and Risdon. The Cougars will need to learn how to play 4-quarter football if they want to win the games that count.
Blues 13 5 83 def Bulldogs 9 4 58
The Blues set up their win over their arch rivals with a clinical first half display that saw them lead by 25 points at half time. They made better use of the wind and made sure the ball was on the side favored by the wind when in attack. "Angry" (Cory Jury-Lynn) nailed some nice shots in the first term, while the Bulldogs often squandered their opportunities when shooting on goal. The Blues are building a solid base of core players that are quickly coming to grips with AFL, whereas the Bulldogs have yet to field a consistant side. It will be interesting to see if they can get their act together come finals time.
