Code of conduct Reminder

The purpose of this post is to remind all members of their obligations under the Basketball Queensland Code of Conduct which has been adopted by TBI, can be downloaded http://www.foxsportspulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=0-4762-0-0-0&sID=225603. It is our expectation that any differences in opinion should be dealt with in a respectful and appropriate manner and we are disappointed that there have recently been unacceptable email messages received by our Operations Manager.

The Board considers that the tone of the emails is not consistent with any of the following:

- the General Code of Behaviour which states: “Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others” and “Refrain from any form of harassment of others” and “Refrain from any behaviour that may bring the sport of basketball, Basketball Queensland, a member association or an affiliated club into disrepute”.

- In addition to the above, the General Code of Behaviour, the Coaches Code of Behaviour and the Parents Code of Behaviour state: “Refrain from engaging in negative or destructive discussions or postings on social media about players, coaches, spectators, officials, administrators or other basketball participants that may be viewed as abusive, harassing or offensive in nature.”

The Board has an obligation to ensure that our employees are protected from any inappropriate conduct by Members and has resolved to take steps to prevent any such conduct. This includes, but is not limited to, blocking emails from any Member who engages in aggressive or inappropriate email messages towards TBI staff, effective from 18 November 2014. We sincerely trust that such action will not be necessary and encourage Members to attempt to resolve differences of opinion in accordance with the Code of Conduct and in the best interests of all concerned. Pursuant to the Basketball Queensland Tribunal By-laws, which have also been adopted by TBI, we reserve the right to bring disciplinary action against any member whom TBI believes has breached the Code of Conduct for breaches that have occurred to date or any breaches in the future.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
