HEAT & FLAMES SECURE YOUNG STARS FOR 2016

The Townsville Heat and Dennis’ Computer Townsville Flames have been bolstered today with the re-signing of young Townsville Stars and National League Development players Tom Howard and Ainsley Walsh.

Both players are products of the Townsville Basketball junior representative program and have worked their way through the development pathway to reach the national league level as development players with the Townsville Crocodiles and JCU Townsville Fire respectively. After demonstrating throughout the 2015 season that they are ready to step up to the senior level, a higher expectation will rest with Tom and Ainsley in 2016 to be leaders for their respective teams and continue their rapid development.

“I’m excited to be back with the Dennis’ Computer Flames in 2016, we went so close to making the finals last year and that is something we have set our sights on for 2016” Walsh offered. “Last season Brady Walmsley (head coach) gave me a great opportunity to step up and contribute, he gave me a lot of confidence and freedom on the court to succeed and I want to be able to continue my development under him this season”.

“I’m excited about the prospects of this group and building on what we started last season, we are already into pre-season training and it has been really competitive so far”.

Tom Howard returns buoyed by the confidence he gained from another full season on the floor as a development player with the Townsville Crocodiles in the NBL.

“It was great this season with the Crocs to be on the floor everyday competing against those guys and helping me to develop my all round game. I think I’ve put myself in a really good state of mind to have a productive QBL season and help the Heat get back to the playoffs”, Howard said.

“I want to be more consistent individually this season in order to help the team succeed. I feel like I can contribute in a lot of ways to this group and Rod (head coach Rodney Anderson) has given me a lot of confidence to play to my strengths so far throughout pre-season”.

The Townsville Heat and Dennis’ Computer Townsville Flames will be in pre-season action next weekend against the visiting Mackay and Cairns QBL teams. You can catch both squads in action next Saturday March 19th and Sunday March 20th and Townsville 106.3FM Stadium. Game times will be released early next week.
