Future Development Program

 

The Future Development Program (FDP) has been designed to provide a pathway and the correct tools for players aged 12-13 the correct tools via expert coaching and tuition in order to develop their skill set for future Development Tours and State representation. The FDP has the objective of identifying and enhancing the fundamental skills of young basketball talent with potential. It will allow Basketball WA to monitor and track the athletes progress and provide necessary guidance to allow these young players to develop into an elite basketball athlete.

The Future Development Program (FDP) in 2016 will operate separately for athletes across two age groups (U13 and U14) athletes born 2004 and 2003.

The cost for the FDP Program (FDP Academy not included) is $110.00 which grants entry into both age appropriate FDP camps.

U13 FDP
Emphasis will be on teaching athletes the importance of developing a work ethic, concentrating on the correct teaching of individual skills and some team components.

U14  FDP
Emphasis will involve advanced coaching to develop athletes with a higher level of intensity of training and work ethic. The program is designed to deliver better quality athletes into Basketball WA State Performance Program (SPP) and U16 State team programs.

Being involved in the FDP will provide players with the opportunity to develop their skills to the highest level possible in a safe but competitive environment. The end result is a more developed player ready to play at the next level.

 

NEW TO FDP 2016 - THE FDP ACADEMY

In 2016 BWA will be running a FDP Academy for U/13 and U/14 age groups. A select amount of athletes will be chosen from the U/13 and U/14 FDP Camp programs. The FDP Academy will vary in workload between the two age groups and will consist of extra training sessions and camp(s) for those athletes selected.

U/13 ACADEMY

The U/13 Academy will run between March and April and will conclude before the start of the WABL season.

The U/13 Academy will consist of:

• 2 x 2hr training sessions
• 1 x Academy camp

Academy training sessions will be broken down in to 4 x 1hr on court learning modules (ball handling, shooting etc.).

U/14 ACADEMY

The U/14 Academy will run between April and July, culminating in the Term 2 school holidays.

The U/14 Academy will consist of:                 

• 5 x 90mins training sessions
• 2 x Academy camps

Each Academy training session will be one on court learning module, covering a new topic each session (ball handling, shooting etc.).
