Crafty Guard Completes Meteors Roster

The McDonald’s Mackay Meteors have added the last piece to the puzzle for their 2016 campaign with the signing of dynamic point guard Shaun Bruce.

Bruce is coming off the back of an extremely impressive NBL season in which he averaged 5.93 points, 2.04 rebounds and 1.93 assists per game for the Cairns Taipans.  Shaun’s playing time was heavily increased during the 2015/2016 season averaging 21 minutes and he stepped up when required by the Taipans.

We are extremely happy that we have come to terms with Shaun and that he will be a McDonalds Meteor this season.  Shaun’s ability to direct a team around the floor, whilst also having the ability to score the basketball is the main reason the club was keen to secure his services.

Head Coach Ken Furdek is extremely excited that the club secured Shaun and completed his 2016 roster.

“Shaun’s leadership on both the defensive and offensive end of the floor is going to be a key for us during the 2016 season”, Ken Furdek said.  “Shaun’s experience coupled with captain Chris Cedar’s leadership provides us with one of the most experienced back court pairings in the league and certainly provides the ideal platform in our quest to defend our title from last year”.

On the back of a stellar NBL season, Bruce will drive the team to continue to improve each and every week.

He has that winning attitude which becomes contagious,” Furdek said.

Bruce was extremely excited about coming to Mackay to play.

“I have experienced being on the opposing team when playing here in Mackay before, and I am very much looking for to playing for the Meteors with the awesome support that thecity provides the program.  With nearly double the capacity after the court redevelopment, I can’t wait to play in front of one of the best home crowds in the league.”

Bruce added, “ I am thankful for the opportunity the club has given me and extremely excited in joining the group for the 2016 season.  I am looking forward to getting familiar with my team mates on the floor and getting to work to ensure we are ready for the commencement of our 2016 season.

As I am off contract with the Taipans I saw it as a good time to try something new. Its a opportunity to build on my NBL season and the challenge to help the Meteors go back to back is exciting. I am looking forward to our season opener against the Cairns Marlins.  I have played with a lot of these guys over the past 4 years and I look forward to the challenge ahead.

Shaun will arrive in Mackay on the 18th of April and will suit up with the McDonalds Meteors in a preseason game against Rocky on April 22nd.
